The report of the commission of inquiry into voting patterns and electoral violence, released in January, 2019, found out that there was electoral violence in the 2016 general elections. The report, inter alia, indicates that the violence did not only create voting apathy but
also intimidated political players such as women deterring them from taking part in the said election

The First National Democracy Stakeholders Summit was held from 30th to 31st March at the New Government Complex in Lusaka, Zambia. The summit was attended by representatives from political parties, civil society, academia and Media Organizations (see Annex I).
